Lewis was an avid reader who became engrossed in Classic and Romantic literature as well as myths from an early age. He read books, and the ideas and personalities he came across in them had a profound and enduring effect on his perception of reality and himself. What literary representations and symbols of women had an impact on Lewis' perception of women? What role do his literary conceptions of femininity play in shaping the female characters he writes? Do real women's lives match what Lewis depicts as the experiences of female characters in literature? In what ways do these various influences show themselves in the Chronicles of Narnia's depictions of women?
